How does a good project idea become a convincing and successful funding application? What content, elements, and aspects are important to a jury when deciding whether to award funding? How is cultural funding structured in Germany, what are its cultural policy objectives, and why does this matter when applying for funding?
Together with Sina Schröppel, participants will explore these questions in this workshop. They will gain insights into the structure of the German funding landscape, learn to understand the perspectives of jury members, and acquire practical knowledge for developing and formulating successful funding applications.
In this workshop, we will use concrete examples to explore what makes a successful application. We will analyse successfully funded applications from the funding practice of the independent performing arts in Hamburg and examine how the project idea, objectives, and target groups are convincingly connected and translated into different sections of an application, as well as the funding decisions that were made in each case.
The Best Practice examples brought by the workshop facilitators will show different ways of presenting a project clearly and effectively and provide inspiration for formulations, structures, and arguments that can resonate with a jury. Together, we will identify key success factors and discuss typical do’s and don’ts when writing funding applications.
In the final part of the workshop, the participants’ own project ideas will take centre stage. All participants are invited to bring along their own ideas or already developed applications to discuss and work on together. No prior submission is necessary – simply bring your materials to the workshop. The group will provide concrete feedback and impulses to help make your projects clearer, more coherent, and as successful as possible.
The workshop will be held in spoken German; contributions in English are welcome at any time. If needed, whisper interpreting can potentially be arranged (please ask when registering).
The participation fee is €10 per person, reduced to €7 for DfdK members. The workshop takes place on the first floor and there is no elevator.
