On May 29, from 14:00 to 19:00, the International Artist Day will take place in Hamburg for the first time.
Initiated by the INTRO program, in cooperation with the Intercultural Forum and DfdK, the day is aimed at artists who have left their countries of origin and are continuing or rebuilding their artistic practice in Hamburg.
The focus is on practical questions around arrival and working conditions, as well as on exchange, empowerment, and visibility. There will be an open space for networking and mutual support—so come by and share your perspectives!
Program
14:00 – 14:30 — Slow arriving
14:30 – 16:30 — Workshop: KSK, visas, and structural access with Sebastian Hoffmann
16:30 – 17:00 — Coffee & cookies break
17:00 – 19:00 — Workshop: Empowerment
An empowerment workshop for freelance artists and cultural practitioners with migration experience
Many artists and cultural practitioners with migration experience face various forms of exclusion on a daily basis - when applying for opportunities, within funding structures, or due to language and social barriers. In this workshop, we create space to share experiences, name form of discrimination, exchange knowledge and develop perspectives together: how can we build networks, strengthen one another and advocate for fairer conditions in the cultural sector?
We discuss how to recognise discrimination - whether in job searches, through low pay or language barriers - how to respond to it, and what strategies help us overcome obstacles.
The aim of the gathering is to create a safe space for sharing opinions and experiences. Together we seek ways to protect our rights, build psychological resilience and support one another. We work in an atmosphere of solidarity to strengthen our community and be there for each other.
The event will be held in German and English - we will adapt the format as needed to suit the participants.
The workshop is facilitated by Sonja Collison (W3) and Lena Leskova (Intercultural Forum).
