The allocation of funding in the independent performing arts is a widely debated topic: who sits on juries, and who decides their composition? There is still considerable criticism that procedures lack transparency, that marginalized voices are underrepresented, and that existing power structures remain influential. But what kinds of change processes have funding institutions initiated in recent years? How are demands for participatory selection and regular reappointment being addressed? And what obstacles exist when it comes to reporting on these processes transparently?
At this event, representatives of public authorities, artists, and (former) jury members will discuss jury procedures in the independent performing arts in Hamburg and Berlin. The aim is to create a respectful exchange, opening up a space to talk about fairness and transparency in the composition and working methods of juries, while weaving together realities and utopias.
Come along, bring your questions and your own experiences—we will take the time for exchange and inspiration on a process that significantly shapes the work and future of the independent scene.
An initiative by the Dachverband freie darstellende Künste Hamburg (DfdK) in cooperation with LAFT and Fringify – Independent Arts Festival Hamburg.
Registration via: anmeldung@dfdk.de (but spontaneous attendance is also possible)
Language: German; contributions in English are always welcome. Whispered interpretation can be arranged if needed (please indicate this when registering).
